A LIGHT-SHEDDING DECREE

The very title of the Decree issued by the Ministry of Health on 10 October 2010 is very explicit:

"PROHIBITION OF USING, IMPORTING AND MARKETING ON THE ITALIAN TERRITORY OF DENTAL AMALGAMS NOT COMING IN THE FORM OF PRE-DOSED CAPSULES AND PRECAUTIONS AND DIRECTIONS FOR USE OF DENTAL AMALGAMS MARKETED IN ITALY."

Anyway, in order to discuss in detail the high toxicity and danger of the mercury used on the amalgam fillings, here are some of the most significant excerpts of this Decree:

“…
Considering that the emission of mercury vapours during the free-form preparation of dental amalgams is likely to jeopardize the health of users and patients;
Considering that the risk of mercury overdose in amalgams made from metal alloys and from free-form-made mercury;
…..
Considering however that particularly sensitive population subgroups (children, pregnant women, etc.) demanding greater protection exist along with special circumstances that are likely to produce exposure to considerable peaks of Hg;

Considered that an aspect which must induce caution is the existence of multiple sources of exposure to Mercury for the general population: diet, eco-dispersion and use of medicines;

It is hereby decreed that:
Using, importing and marketing on the Italian territory of dental amalgams not coming in the form of pre-dosed capsules is prohibited.
